The chapel has recently undergone a major repair to the exterior stonework and has been renovated by professional stonemasons who replaced each stone that had worn due to the weather. This project was carried out under the Heritage Lottery Fund Scheme and in 2017, the building was re-dedicated as a place of worship at a very special service.
The film on the right hand side was made to show the repair works. You will see and hear from some of the members in the film. If you would like any further information contact our Secretary, by e-mail: noltonhaven@landskerpastorate.co.uk |

Tabernacle, Tiers Cross, United Reformed ChurchThe chapel at Tiers Cross has been on the same site since 1814 and for generations it has been at the heart of the community and village of Tiers Cross. We are a small but active congregation and have members that are descended from the founding members of 1814. The chapel was founded as a Congregational Church (church meaning the people not the building) and has followed the Congregational Way ever since. In 1972, it became part of the United Reformed Church, but still remains an independent, Congregational place of worship, where the authority for what we do as a local church is invested in the church meeting.
We are actively seeking new members to support and maintain our life and witness in Tiers Cross. Recently we refurbished the schoolroom and in 2014, we celebrate our bi centenary. So now is a good time to be part of us. We are quite ‘middle of the road’ and offer traditional services with a contemporary feel. We are authorised to conduct Weddings, Christenings and Funerals and also own and manage the cemetery in the village. If you want to know more, please get in touch. The chapel was founded through the efforts of the Reverend Arnold Davies. He was the minister of the Congregational Chapel at Rosemarket and there is a history of the two chapels sharing ministers. Arnold Davies saw the beginning of the building but died on October 25th, 1814, aged 42, before the first service was held in 1815. Arnold Davies was born in Puncheston in 1772 and after Ordination, served a number of chapels in Pembrokeshire and London. He was a teacher by training and regarded as a pious, religious man. It is believed a congregation had been established prior to 1814, which is why a chapel was thought necessary and it is known that a Church Meeting authorised the raising of Tabernacle, Tiers Cross. It is likely they met for worship at a nearby farm. The first Minister at Tiers Cross was Reverend David Thomas Lodwick, who was born in the Parish of Llanedy, Carmarthenshire. At the age of 19, he entered training for the Ministry and in 1816 was Ordained and Inducted as the Congregational Minister for Rosemarket and Tiers Cross. The Chapel has been served by a number of Ministers over the centuries and there have been periods when it was without a minister. In the census of 1861, the total members of the Chapel amounted to 60, with 91 listeners and a Sunday School of 100. In the census of 1911, there were 80 members, 90 adherents and 4 deacons. The Sunday School had 68 students and 5 teachers. In these times, there is no longer a Sunday School but we are keen to do something for the young people in our community. If you feel you can assist us, do please get in touch. We look forward to seeing you at one of our services. Our email is tierscross@landskerpastorate.co.uk |
